Big Evil Corp is bringing retro-flavoured platformer Tanglewood to the Sega Mega Drive (or Genesis if you're across the pond) and PC on August 14.
Tanglewood doffs its cap to the classic 16-bit endeavours from Virgin Games in the 90s, and takes the form of a side-scrolling platform game with a pinch of metroidvania thrown into the mix. You hop into the fluffy boots of Nymn, a fox-like being trapped in the game's titular wilds who is on a mission to return to the family pack.
While Tanglewood is a dark and dangerous place be stuck in, Nymn isn't completely helpless. Some creatures are benevolent beings, able to aid your furry friend by providing you with power-ups.
The coolest thing about Tanglewood is of course the fact it's coming out on the Mega Drive. As in, Sega's 16-bit powerhouse that defined a generation and was obviously way better than the SNES. All the cool kids in the playground at my school had a Mega Drive, so I must be right.
Tanglewood comes on a fully functioning cartridge for PAL, NTSC, and NTSC-J machines, and will also be released for the PC via Steam.
The timing is spot on too, as the Mega Drive is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Blimey, way to make someone feel old, Sega.
