System Shock remake developer Nightdive Studios has confirmed that it is aiming to ship the game in the first quarter of 2020. The new date comes in light of news that the project had been put on hiatus earlier this year.

Speaking with PC Gamer during the Game Developers Conference 2018 last week, CEO Stephen Kick spoke at length about the game’s troubled development, admitting it wasn’t heading in the right direction based on feedback from contributors to its Kickstarter initiative. Essentially, continuing down this path, Kick said, ‘wouldn’t have been true to the the System Shock vision.’

‘Our intention is to ship exactly the game that was promised, with as much of the features that were promised as we can, in a time frame that will get it out as fast as we can,’ said Kick, adding that the game is now eyeing a tentative release window of ‘Q1 of 2020.’

Fortunately, Kick doesn’t anticipate any financial troubles as a result of the delay, confirming this ‘more complex and costly game’ has ignited ‘renewed interest from some publishing partners.’

The System Shock remake is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
