Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio will announce the development of Syphon Filter 4 this February with the release planned for the holiday season, reports UK video games magazine PLAY.
“As far as our spies tell us, Syphon Filter 4 will be announced and released during 2012 – they’re not often wrong either. Developed by SCE London Studio (once thought to be Sony Bend), it will see a return to the world of shooting, espionage and Gabe Logan’s superb name,” writes the magazine.
Syphon Filter 4 was mistakenly revealed last May via a quickly pulled post on the US PlayStation Blog. Described as a sequel to PSP title Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, the game promises to “revolutionise” the stealth genre thanks to a new game engine.
PLAY magazine also believes Sony will announced God of War 4 in February.
“Sony Santa Monica’s call for an online dev to join its ranks has many thinking the inevitable God of War IV will include online play,” writes the magazine. “We could stop and ask why, but then we could also ask there’s another game when GOW III was meant to be Kratos’s last outing. We’re not complaining though.”
With Syphon Filter 4 already out of the bag a reveal next month won’t be a major surprise. As for God of War 4, the third game hit stores in March 2010 so a winter 2012 or early 2013 release would provide near enough a three year development cycle.
