The Mewtwo DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS – awarded for free to those who buy and register both versions of the game – will also be released separately as a paid download, Nintendo has announced.
The free download codes for Mewtwo will be sent out in spring 2015, with the paid version available at some point in the future.
It’s a somewhat surprising decision given that earlier this week game designer Masahiro Sakurai told VideoGamer that there are no plans for Super Smash Bros. DLC over fears that fans may believe it deliberately held back content from the main game.
Players who buy both games games can also register them to receive an exclusive Premium Sound Selection double CD set packed with 72 songs taken from the handheld and home console versions.
Unlike Mewtwo, the CD set is only available via the promotion.
