Super Smash Bros. for Wii U sold an impressive 244,747 units during its launch week in Japan, securing the No.1 spot ahead of Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire which sold a combined 167,523 copies, reports Famitsu.

The launch of Smash was greatly needed for Nintendo, with the popular fighting game helping Wii U console sales more than double from 13,533 to 27,191 units.

Wii U was the week’s second best-selling system behind 3DS. PS4 sold 13,040 units and Xbox One only 904 units.
