A new update has been released for Super Smash Bros. 3DS that enables the use of amiibo characters.

To use it, though, you’ll need a shiny New Nintendo 3DS system which comes equipped with built-in NFC technology. Those with a older 3DS or 2DS system will need to wait for the launch of a separate NFC accessory later this year.

Game Update 1.05 additional contents:

  • Adds the Share mode, allowing you to share snapshots, Replays, and Mii Fighters with other players around the world. You can also search for and download data that has been posted by other playersPlease note: you can only post data you have created yourself, and uploaded content will be deleted from the server after 30 days.It’s also possible to send snapshots, Replays, and Mii Fighters to your friends. When connecting to the internet from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the game will check for new data. Downloading received data may take some time. If you don’t download data within 30 days, it will be deleted from the server.
  • Adds the ability to post snapshots to Miiverse. Snapshots will be posted in a dedicated community
  • Introduces additional enhancements to improve the user’s experience and enjoyment

Once updated to 1.05 you will not be able to play against players still on 1.04 or below.
