Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will include Sonic the Hedgehog as a playable character in the upcoming puzzle and platforming game (via a press release).

Boasting 100 single-player levels and 10 multiplayer mini-games, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD overhauls the Wii version and does away with motion controls in favour of analogue controls. Players on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will be able to play their way with optimised schemes for each platform. And for the first time ever, online leaderboards for Time Attack and Decathlon Score Attack games will let players compete for the fastest time and the highest scores.

Today, Sega has revealed that another animal mascot will be joining AiAi and his friends: Sonic the Hedgehog. The blue blur is a hidden unlockable character in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, and fortunately he has his classic look rather than his controversial CGI countenance. Also, playing as Sonic will give rise to unique gameplay effects. All the bananas in the level will turn into golden rings and chirpy SFX will imbue the new game with nostalgia.

In addition, there will be unlockable costumes for AiAi and his friends and Sega has hinted there are some Halloween outfits thrown into the mix as well.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz will launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on October 29. Watch the Sonic the Hedgehog announcement below.
