During a Nintendo Treehouse livestream at E3 (via Game Informer), it was revealed that friends will be able to play with one another in Super Mario Maker 2's online mode.
Super Mario Maker 2 has multiplayer courses, which is a big addition to the series, but a few weeks back Nintendo said that you couldn't play with friends because the publisher didn't want teams of buddies to control the leaderboards. The folks at Nintendo said they thought random matchmaking was best for everyone.
The publisher has changed its tune now, though, and during a Treehouse livestream, host Samantha Robertson said 'The dev team is still working on things in the game, wrapping things up. And that new ability that's going to be coming with an update — to be able to play with your friends online — I think it's something, hopefully, folks will enjoy when the game launches.'
Wonderful. Have a look at the video below to see the Mario Maker 2 bit of the livestream.
Super Mario Maker 2 launches June 28 on Nintendo Switch.
