Two of the most anticipated games for the 3DS have just had their release dates announced: Super Mario 3D Land will be available in Europe on November 18, while Mario Kart 7 will be arriving on December 2.

Super Mario 3D Land looks to follow the style of Nintendo’s superlative Mario Galaxy games, but will also feature gyro sensor features that will allow players to “scout levels and find secrets before they play”, according to the latest press release. The game will also offer some form of StreetPass functionality.

Gyro control is increasingly becoming a focal point for Nintendo’s 3DS titles. The feature will also pop up as an optional steering option in Mario Kart 7, following the trend set by the recent remake of Star Fox 64. The new method works in conjunction with a first-person perspective.

Mario Kart 7 will also feature Lakitu and Metal Mario as playable characters for the first time, along with a tricks system akin to the one found in Mario Kart Wii.

This morning’s press release also reveals that the 3DS will be gaining the ability to record 3D video, via a system update in November. The same update will offer new content for people who’ve beaten the Puzzle Swap and StreetPass Quest challenges in Mii Plaza.
