Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games has filed a trademark application for a video game titled ‘Sunset Overdrive’.

As spotted by NeoGAF, the application for the unannounced game was registered by the developer last week. The trademark type is identified as relating to “Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game”.

Sunsetoverdrive.com also appears to have been registered by Insomniac Games’ marketing director Ryan Schneider.

As GAF points out, the name sounds like it could be related to an unannounced racing title in development at the studio. The name also shares some degree of similarity with Overstrike, the original title given to Insomniac’s upcoming shooter Fuse.

Could Sunset Overdrive be Insomniac’s first next-gen release, or could it be another free-to-play Facebook game?

Last month, Insomniac CEO Ted Price told VideoGamer.com that the company was “dipping [its] toes in a lot of different spots and changing with the tide as we see the industry becoming more fluid.

“And that’s one of the strengths of Insomniac,” he continued. “We are willing and able to change very quickly when necessary.”

Fuse is due for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 during Q2 2013.
