Absolutely stunning news for Street Fighter fans – Capcom has announced that development on Street Fighter 4 has just begun.

An Internet report from a Capcom Gamer’s Day event in London has revealed that the game won’t be released for more than a year and no platforms have been announced.

An official website is now live. The debut trailer for the game can currently be found on Pro-G.TV, showing Ken and Ryu fighting. We’re waiting for gameplay footage, but this teaser does a good job of getting our fingers excited for the fighting to come.

Street Fighter fans will be delighted by the news. Fans have been begging for a fourth Street Fighter game for years, and news of the game has set Internet forums alight with anticipation.

Capcom has also revealed that hotly anticipated PS3 and Xbox 360 game Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix has been delayed until 2008 as the team try to get lag down to a minimum. This will be encouraging news for fans who have struggled with lag on current XBL game Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting.

According to David Sirlin, a game designer who claims to be working on HD Remix, it is the “the next game in the SF2 series” and is “totally rebalanced” with “tonnes of changes“.

Sirlin claimed in a post that has since been removed from his blog that the game “includes an arcade perfect version of Super Turbo SF with no changes. Two games in one“, “widescreen 16:9 support” and “remixed music“.

On widescreen support, Sirlin said: “The widescreen mode zooms in the camera but does not change gameplay. I was skeptical at first, but it’s turning out surprisingly good. Even hardcore players seem to like it, even prefer it to the regular 4:3 mode.

At the same time, Internet reports have revealed that Capcom has also made a raft of announcements regarding existing and new IP. Here’s the list below:

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice: A new DS game starring a rookie lawyer where Pheonix Wright is not the main character.

Lost Planet (PS3): It will be available next year and will include all the bonus characters from the PC version and extra DLC from the 360 version. The game will also feature 16-player online play over PSN.

Dark Void: Capcom’s new IP is a sci-fi action adventure from a third-person perspective.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD (Xbox Live Arcade): Hotly anticipated online HD version of classic 2D beat-em-up is scheduled for 2008 while the team try and get lag down to a minimum. Will also feature stat tracking, widescreen and remixed versions of all the original music.

Wii Love Golf: New cute golfing from the Everybody’s Golf team utilising the Wii Remote.
