Some Gears of War: Ultimate Edition players may need to wait until the end of the year to receive their free copies of Gears of War 1, 2, 3 and Judgment, The Coalition has said.

Even though codes started being issued last month, they are only being sent out to select groups of players at a time, with new waves expected each week throughout December. The next wave will be going out this Thursday, December 10, although it isn’t clear how many people will receive their codes each week.

“The goal is to have these out on weekly waves through the end of the year with the exception of the holiday week in late December,” The Coalition’s director of community Adam Fletcher posted on the Gears of War forums last night.

“We will continue to post and update everyone on exactly when these waves go out. Please consult our FAQ if you have any questions regarding the Gears Collection program and for any support links if you are having issues with your tokens or need assistance due to them being accidentally deleted.”

Free digital copies of Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War Judgment were promised to players who purchase and play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition while connected to Xbox Live before December 31, 2015, with codes rolling out from November 19.

As well as working on Xbox 360, each game is also backwards compatible with Xbox One. The codes will be delivered to eligible players across multiple Xbox Live messages.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition launched on Xbox One back in August and, according to Miller’s 9/10 review, “does a solid job in dragging Gears Of War into a new-gen world”.
