Steam may let users earn discounts for future game purchases with a loyalty system, according to one of the developers of SteamDB (via IGN).
Valve is working on loyalty awards/rewards. It has a point system, and a system to add reactions to user reviews.
Also includes reward items, redeeming points for badge levels, and possiblity game discounts.

SteamDB is a third-party database that tracks alterations and updates to the digital distribution platform. Developer Pavel Djundik claims Valve has this plan in the pipeline, along with points that may be earned and redeemed for badge levels, and will let users post reactions to other user’s reviews. He also seems to suggest that the loyalty system’s “reward items” may be distinct to discounts for games on sale in the store.

Djundik also offered a supposed screenshot of the reactions that players could give user reviews in the future. These include: “Deep Thoughts, Heartwarming, Hilarious, Hot Take, Poetry and xHelpful.” That last entry may be conditional, meaning that the user would be able to say whether the review was “Helpful” or “Not Helpful” to them.
Valve has not announced a loyalty system for Steam, so we must take this information with a pinch of salt. Yet, it would be an interesting move to attract and maintain interest and attachment to Steam over its competitors. Exclusivity agreements with Epic Games are affecting the rival distribution platform, but not by a lot. For example, Metro Exodus sold approximately 200,000 copies in its first few days on Steam after its twelve month exclusivity period on the Epic Game Store. In any event, we’ll let you know if anything further comes of this loyalty system.
