The Steam Deck is a fantastic handheld system from Valve that is basically equivalent to playing your PC on the go. There are an assortment of games available to play, and Valve has just recently provided a new update. This Steam Deck update fixes a “rare bug” and “game resolution” issue for non-Steam games, and there’s other fixes provided for the client.
In our Steam Deck review, we gave the platform a glowing 9/10. It has been around since early 2022, and just recently it has been treated to the arrival of the Final Fantasy 16 demo. There are some problems with the performance of the Final Fantasy 16 demo on the system, which is a shame as it’s such an excellent game.
Hopefully the experience will be improved before the game’s full launch on PC in September. However, just recently, Valve released an update for the Steam Deck, and this has fixed a few issues with the client.
Steam Deck update fixes “rare bug” and “game resolution” issue
On August 28th, Valve issued an announcement disclosing fixes to the Steam Deck Beta Client. Below are the patch notes:
General
- Fixed a rare bug that could cause the login page to continuously fail with “error 11” until the client was restarted.
- Fixed game resolution overrides failing to apply for non-steam games.
Steam Input
- Added Output Icons to all Mode/Behavior dropdown menus. These indicate if the mode (by default) generates OS Mouse output, XInput (controller) Output, Steam Input API Action Output, or is a remapping tool/Overlay Menu (Touch, Radial, Hotbar).
- Steam Input API Analog Actions that can have multiple modes i.e. “Camera | Camera as FlickStick” are now labelled as “… (via FlickStick)”
- Steam Input API Analog Actions can now optionally be used “… (via Gyro To Mouse)” (default is still “As Mouse” or “As Joystick Mouse” depending on source).
- Fix rare issue where Gyro Processing occurred before controller type is established.
- Fix for Track Pad as Button Behavior not displaying any glyphs.
- Fix “Gyro Calibration” Button appearing twice on Gyro config screen if there is a mode shift applied to the Gyro.
