StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm won’t be released until early 2012, Battle.net project director Greg Canessa has revealed.
Responding to a question from the audience during a session at GDC Online, Canessa put an 18 month time-frame on the next instalment in the StarCraft franchise being released.
Canessa said that Blizzard will be focussing its efforts on Battle.net features including trading replays, broadcasting replays, and upgrading profiles “over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm”.
An 18 month period would see the expansion hitting stores in March/April 2012. Heart of the Swarm will concentrate on the Zerg, while the third chapter, Legacy of the Void, will focus on the Protoss faction.

Spring 2012 might seem a long way off, but Blizzard is never one to rush out its products. The December release of WoW expansion, Cataclysm, comes two years after Wrath of the Lich King and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty took what seemed like forever to turn up – it was worth the wait though.
