The first UKIE PC Download chart has been released for the month of January, with EA and BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic taking the honours.

The chart remains in beta, and UKIE estimates that it represents around 40 per cent of the overall UK digital market on PC. The chart has been compiled by the UKIE’s digital group which consists of 25 organisations – of these companies ten have provided sales reports on their PC digital sales for the Beta version of the chart.

“We are delighted to reveal the UK’s first digital chart based on real sales data,” said UKIE CEO Jo Twist.

“This is a watershed moment for our industry, but it is only the first step in capturing the full digital market. There is still a lot of work to be done, and we need more data, but we felt that the market would benefit from seeing that this project is very much on course.””

This is a great start, but it’s clear some big name publishers are missing – Bethesda, Activision Blizzard and Valve to name just three. Given the popularity of Skyrim on Steam we’d wager it would actually be No.1 if Bethesda had shared the sales data.

In fact, Steam’s top three games – Skyrim, Saints Row: The Third and Modern Warfare 3 – are all absent from the digital chart.

Only games from four publishers make up the Top 20.
