Both Guild Wars II and BioWare’s upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic will be “hard-pressed to release this year,” Trion Worlds developer Will Cook has told VideoGamer.com.

Cook’s scepticism regarding the Star Wars: The Old Republic release date flies against a recent listing from ShopTo which handed the MMO a firm September 9 release date.

He went on to say he was “personally disappointed [The Old Republic] was going to be standard action-bar combat.”

Speaking on whether there can be more than one WoW-scale success at a time, he stated:

“I think it would be arrogant to make an assumption one way or another. Because everybody said that in the past when EQ was the top dog. At that time people were saying the whole MMO community in the world is like 2 million strong, and then WoW blew that out of the water.

“And we’re seeing huge adoption by Facebook games and the whole mobile space, there’s massive communities now being tapped into in China and Korea and Russia that are now being made available to Western developers. So can another game exist and be that big? Yeah.”
