Square Enix has accused 15 Italian nationals of leaking a preview version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution in late May. The unfinished build of the sci-fi title contained the early sections of the game and was readily available on torrent sites.

According to the lawsuit, Square Enix arranged a limited preview of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for select members of the video game press. The preview version of the game was made available online, but was protected.

It’s alleged that individuals logged into the secure file share using the authorised account of Italian video game magazine GMC. This was done without the permission or knowledge of the GMC writer and from an IP address not associated with GMC. The accused then distributed the game using third-party peer to peer file sharing.

Square Enix is seeking damages in excess of $5000.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 26.
