After announcing its plans to perform server merges across Final Fantasy XIV this March, Square Enix has decided to reassess the situation due to negative fan feedback.

Writing on the official website, the studio made their new intentions clear, stating:

“In order to ensure that the most desirable and effective outcome is achieved, [the company] will be reassessing the method of the merger process.”

This suggests a potential stop to the studio’s original plan of cutting down its 18 servers to 10 in order to create greater populations on each server for when their re-designed Version 2.0 patch is released.

Final Fantasy XIV is slowly gearing up for the release of Version 2.0, having recently re-introduced its subscription service after a period of free-to-play.
