A senior Square Enix executive has described the state of Japanese games development as ‘almost humiliating’ following a poor showing in comparison to Western offerings at E3.

Speaking to Andriasang, Square’s senior executive officer Koji Taguchi admitted “this has been a week where I worried daily about how we can fix this.”

Japanese IP at E3 this week was consistently overshadowed by Western developed titles, including that of Square Enix themselves, who’s big hitters included Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Hitman Absolution – all properties obtained via its buyout of Britsoft publisher Eidos.
