Maxis today revealed further details on Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena, two new titles in the Spore franchise built from the ground up exclusively for the Wii and Nintendo DS.

Spore Hero promises to offer gamers the unmatched creative freedom of Spore in an accessible, story-driven action-adventure made exclusively for the Wii. The game is set in 3D world and empowers players to create their own Hero as they embark on an epic quest to save their new home world from destruction as a dark force threatens the planet.

Spore Hero will take full advantage of the Wii controls, as players engage in heated battles, humorous missions and brain taxing puzzles. The game will also feature more than 250 body parts which can be used in the Spore Creature Creator enhanced for the Wii.

On the Nintendo DS, Spore Hero Arena sees players enter a 3D galaxy filled with intense arena-based combat. Players will create a unique gladiator Hero creature and guide it from planet to planet as they fight dangerous enemy creatures and complete special missions, collecting new parts, abilities and gaining upgrades along the way.

Players will need to defeat each local champion, unlocking special abilities that will benefit their Hero. By combining special abilities, parts, and upgrades, players will be able to create a fighting style of their own. The game will also feature multiplayer capabilities: up to four-player over a local wireless connection or one-on-one over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena will be available in 2009.
