Ubisoft has revealed that the upcoming Splinter Cell Trilogy for PS3 will feature ports based on the PC originals, not the inferior PS2 games.
“When we started this project, one of our main aims was to provide the players with the best possible content. Therefore, we decided to port the game from the PC version, which had more content and detail compared to the PS2 version,” said a post on the Official PlayStation Blog.
While that’s a huge relief to anyone who suffered the downgraded Splinter Cell games on PS2, sadly none of the three games will include multiplayer – either competitive or co-op.
The trilogy will be released as a collection on PSN and at retail on a single Blu-ray, while each game will also be available individually on PSN.
While it’s a shame that none of the series’ impressive multiplayer modes (Mercs Vs. Spies was great) have made it into the PS3 ports, it’s great to hear that Ubisoft is working from the PC originals rather than the cut-down PS2 games.
