With Splatoon 2 launching on the Nintendo Switch in just a couple of weeks, a Splatoon 2 focused Nintendo Direct today announced a Splatfest demo available before launch, as well as providing a refresher on some of the new and returning features coming to the sequel.

The Splatfest World Premiere demo will happen on July 15 from 5pm to 9pm BST. Players just have to download the free demo from the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, and choose a team before the Splatfest begins.

What precisely is a Splatfest? Well, it’s a 4vs4 game mode where each player chooses between two teams: Cake vs. Ice Cream. A Splatfest Battle is a time-limited Turf War battle to see who reigns supreme. For the first-time you can fight alongside your friends, and may the freshest team win! Yes, really.

The demo can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop from July 7, before the Splatfest goes live on July 15. Splatoon 2 releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on July 21.
