Popular Switch splatterfest Splatoon 2 has been updated, bringing with it a brand new ranked game mode in the form of Clam Blitz, Nintendo has announced.

In the mode, teams go head to head in order to collect 100 points for their team by collecting clams from around the map and throwing them into the opposing team’s goal. However, each goal is first protected by a barrier, which can only be broken by chucking a Power Clam at it, made up of ten regular clams. Once this barrier is broken (which will net you 20 points), clams can be thrown in to gain three points a clam, but the barrier will start self repairing if no clams are chucked in after a set period of time and will need to be broken again to keep scoring points.

Got it? Thankfully, Nintendo has also put out a handy Clam Blitz gameplay video which should help, which you can see below. This new mode comes hot on the heels of last month’s 2.0.0 update for Splatoon 2, which added a host of new additions like new gear, hairstyles and amiibo functionality. You can read about that right here.

The new mode has been added to the Ranked Battle playlist already, and if you want more information check out the post on Nintendo’s website.
