Relic is set to help in the development of MMO Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online once the upcoming third-person action title Warhammer: Space Marine is done, according to Relic’s marketing manager James McDermott.

“We just on the whole try to work as collaboratively as possible, and with Space Marine wrapping up, we may become more involved in just helping them on a day to day basis with some things as we move forward,” McDermott told Eurogamer.

McDermott went on to say that this is a typical process within development.

“We kind of do that on all of the products. When something’s getting close to launch or if it’s at a critical point, some of the other talent from other studios start to help out to get them as good as possible.”

He adds that Vigil Games, the developer currently working on the MMO, has also used elements of Space Marine as influence for their title.

“In terms of some of the core mechanics, they were looking at our combat system quite carefully at one point to see if they could try and make it – not the same – but just have some level of consistency. That’s definitely been a consideration.”

Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online was originally announced in 2007 and currently has no official release date. The game has been described as “special” by THQ’s Danny Bilson.
