If you thought that Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 wasn’t hard enough, developer Saber Interactive has heard you. While the team behind the awesome Warhammer game desperately want to give players access to even harder difficulties, the team is worried the game is already reaching its limit.
With more content on the way, including new events that won’t have FOMO timers and a Horde Mode addition, players want to be able to trod through previous levels on difficulties above the current Absolute mode. Unfortunately, that might not be possible.
Space Marine 2 devs reach difficulty limit
In a recent community note, game director Dmitry Grigorenko explained that the team is working on additional difficulty modifiers for the future of Space Marine 2. However, a brand-new bespoke difficulty mode may not be added as the team reaches their limit in terms of fair design.
“Overall, we are quite happy with how intense the difficulty itself is,” the game director explained. “We see that it requires a lot of concentration and we feel like it’s fun in terms of how many enemies you have to face, how hard they hit you etc. At the same time, we see some comments that it’s a bit easy. Yet on the other hand we don’t want to mess it up and would like to hear the voice of the community first.”
Grigorenko explained that the devs are “almost at out limit in terms of how we can make the game harder without making it unfair and not fun” with additional difficulties. Additionally, simply adding a bunch more enemies into the fray wouldn’t be possible due to performance limits for the vast majority of players.
“Greatly increasing enemy damage and HP will make it so players will die randomly and will make enemies bullet sponges, which will not be fun,” they explained.
Nevertheless, Saber Interactive is working on more difficulty options in the form of a new modifiers system. While the system will “take some time”, the new system will allow combinations of gameplay modifiers to create brand-new challenges on top of selected difficulty options.
