SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo has revealed that there's a lot of pressure on the upcoming fighting game sequel to pull in the punters.

Speaking with DualShockers at Gamescom, Okubo-san revealed that Bandai Namco Games' venerable scrapper wasn't exactly in good shape after SoulCalibur V, hence why it took so long for this year's follow-up.

'The first thing is that the IP itself of the SoulCalibur franchise had low expectations from the company. It was actually facing a crisis of maybe disappearing. It took time for me to convince the company,' said Okubo, via a translator.

When asked if SoulCalibur VI's weak commercial performance as a worst-case scenario could spell the end of the series, he replied, 'Yeah, that's right.' No pressure, then.

SoulCalibur VI is due out on October 19 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game is bringing back a number of classic characters into the mix, although some will be regulated to DLC, such as the newly-announced Tira.

If you feel like going all-out on SoulCalibur VI (and if this might be the last one, then I don't blame you) then check out the Collector's Edition.
