Soulcalibur V could have been called Soul Edge 2, if director Daishi Odashima’s wishes had been granted. Odashima asked the high-ups at Namco Bandai if the upcoming brawler could have the proposed title, but they said “no.”

“Actually, I asked the company if we can call the game ‘Soul Edge 2’ but they said ‘no’,” he Tweeted.

In further tweets Odashima said that “Character creation should remain,” but that he’s “not sure about your request for skimpy and fetish outfits…,” and that he’s got to be careful about Nightmare and Siegfried because “They get stronger each time”.

[xurl=/news/soulcalibur_v_announced.html]Soulcalibur V is due for release in 2012[/url]. The game is to take place seventeen years after the events of Soul Calibur IV, unfolding around a new character known as Patrokolos – the son of Sophita Alexandra.

Sad news for everyone wanting to dress their character up in fetish gear. Even so, I very much doubt they’ll be wearing ‘normal’ clothes.
