Sony has announced that SoulCalibur III will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 2 and that they will publish the Namco developed game in Europe.

The game will include three new characters:

  • Zasalamel (tentative) This mysterious man desires to raise the evil sword. He drags those who witness the sharp light from his giant scythe to the abyss of death.
  • Tira (tentative)An angel of death from the darkness with a bird-like grace, she plays with lives using her Ring Blade.
  • Setsuka (tentative)The wandering beauty on a lonely journey. She lives for her revenge with a sword hidden in her umbrella

Packed into the press release were a load of game modes, most interesting of which are Character Creation Mode and Lost Chronicle mode, which “offers a hybrid of combat strategy simulation and fighting game elements,” whatever that means.

Notably missing from the list is online play, which would have been a huge plus. That omission aside, we can’t wait to see how the game turns out later this year.
