Sony unveils SOCOM PS3

At the recent Sony Gamers Day the platform holder took the opportunity to announce the latest instalment in its successful SOCOM franchise, SOCOM: Confrontation for the PlayStation 3.

Said to have been in development for only four months, SOCOM: Confrontation will feature online only play and what’s more will be available to purchase online over the PlayStation Network. The game should also find its way to the usual retail outlets.

Expect up to 32 players to battle it out in team-based combat, with full player customisation and clan options such as uniforms. Game development director Seth Luisi also revealed that the title will take full advantage of the Sixaxis motion sensing and the PlayStation 3 hard drive.

The game will also be supported long after its release, with content regular content packs planned to be released via the PlayStation Store. These content packs will include new modes, special forces teams, customisation options and weapons.

Expect lots more info at E3 in July, with the game currently pencilled in for release this winter.
