Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that it will no longer allow retailers to sell full-game PlayStation Network download codes.

The decision will go into effect on April 1, and basically means that the only way you can grab digital versions of titles will be through the PlayStation Store. Previously, you could purchase codes at retailers to redeem on the PS Store, and they usually came in at the same price as their physical counterparts.

The news first broke via Twitter user Wario64, who revealed that GameStop stores received a memo informing them of the move. Sony then confirmed the news to Eurogamer with the following statement:

'We can confirm that as of April 1, 2019, Sony Interactive Entertainment will no longer offer full games through SIE's Global Digital at Retail program. This decision was made in order to continue to align key businesses globally. To support full games and premium editions, SIE will introduce increased denominations at select retailers. DLC, add-ons, virtual currency, and season passes will still be available.'
