Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced what everyone was waiting for (well, Americans anyway), the PSP’s North American release date. It is set to hit retail stores in the USA and Canada on March 24th 2005. As was predicted, the package will come with the same accessories that the Japanese Value pack included: A 32MB Memory Stick Duo, Headphones, Soft case, sample disc and screen cleaning cloth.

As a bonus for the early adopters, the first one million Value packs sold will include the feature film Spider-Man 2 on UMD format. Sony plan to manufacture one million units for sale in the North American market.

The official line up of games that will launch with the system is yet to be announced, but it is expected in the not too distant future. What Europeans are really after though, is a European release date. With the North American release late in March a European release in the same month is looking unlikely. The price point is also something of a worry for European gamers, with a retail price of £180 rumoured to be on the cards.

We will have more news on the North American PSP launch and details on the European launch when more details are available.
