Sony has announced that a U.S. court has ordered them to pay approximately $90 million in damages to Immersion. Immersion are the developers of force-feedback technology, which they claim Sony infringed on. Sony has been shipping Dual Shock controllers since the PlayStation era, with a Dual Shock 2 being shipped with every PlayStation 2 console.

While Sony have been told to suspend sales of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles, 47 games and two controllers in the United States, they will continue to sell them as the suspension order will not go into effect before the appeal and Sony will be paying a compulsory license fee to Immersion.

This decision has confirmed a ruling made last year that ordered Sony to pay Immersion $82 million. This has risen to more than $90 million due to interest. Microsoft were also on the end of a lawsuit from Immersion, but decided to settle out of court in July 2003.
