Sony has confirmed that it is in the process of working on a fix for a reported PlayStation 4 'bricking' issue that cropped up over the weekend.
Speaking in a statement to IGN, the format holder revealed it is 'planning a system software update to resolve this problem.' However, writing on Twitter, the format holder clarified that the issue is in fact not bricking consoles, but rather sending them in a 'crash loop.'
Sony hasn't confirmed exactly when the patch will be rolled out, but in the meantime affected users can follow the steps below on how to pull your console out of the loop.
We've since fixed the issue, and it wasn't bricking consoles, just sending them into a crash loop that can be quickly fixed in under 5 minutes. Delete the message on the PS mobile app, go into Safe Mode, use Option 5, console back to normal. ^DB

Fortunately, there's also a way to prevent your system from falling foul to the malicious message causing the issue in the first place. Simply hit up the privacy settings on your PS4 and select 'Friends' or 'No One' for your messaging preferences, and it won't be a problem.
