The online retailer, ElectricBirdLand, who had been selling import PSPs, has been ordered to stop selling Sony’s handheld. The order, which has immediate effect, comes after Sony won an injunction in court yesterday.
Essentially ElectricbirdLand now have 28 days to gather and prepare witness statements for its defence in court. If the injunction is later proved to be invalid, Sony will have to reimburse ElectricBirdLand for any losses incurred. The ruling means any PSPs bought from ElectricBirdLand that develop a fault cannot be replaced by EBL, but will eventually be replaced by Sony, come the European launch on September 1st.
It would also appear that Sony have been using some scare tactics. Dan Morelle, ElectricBirdLand MD, claimed that “men in dark glasses” had arrived at his home to deliver documents leaving his pregnant wife feeling intimidated. The judge ruled that in future Sony are to use a courier to deliver documents.
We will bring you more on the court case when it takes place next month.
