It’s been confirmed that the Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios group has been expanded with the acquisition of two leading developers for the PlayStation platforms. Joining the now 15-strong group are MotorStorm developer Evolution Studios and Pursuit Force creator Bigbig Studios.

Both studios will be free to manage their day-to-day operations and there are currently no intentions to make changes to the workforce of each studio. However, GamesIndustry.biz reports that Evolution Studios’ co-founders Martin Kenwrgith and Ian Hetherington are to leave the company.

Managing director Mick Hocking will take on the role of group studio director and will be responsible for Evolution Studios, Bigbig Studios and Sony’s Liverpool Studio.

We’ve enjoyed a highly productive and commercially successful relationship with Evolution and Bigbig and now there’s a great opportunity in bringing them into part of the family to share further in terms of technology, production methodology and creative goals to make the experiences that these teams are creating even better,” said Michael Denny, vice president of SCE Worldwide Studios when speaking to GamesIndustry.biz.

SCE Worldwide Studios now has a work force of over 2,500 employees spread across 15 studios.
