Former Sonic Team boss and all-round video game legend Yuji Naka has announced he’s jumped ship to Square Enix. Naka-san took to Twitter to confirm the move following a long silence, as we haven’t heard much from him since 2015’s Rodea the Sky Soldier on Wii and 3DS.

Sadly, the game designer wasn’t able to divulge much of any details on what he’s beavering away on, simply saying that he’s now part of the Final Fantasy juggernaut. He did, however, let slip that he’s aiming to make an ‘enjoyable game.’

Given his pedigree in forging some of gaming’s most enduring experiences (Sonic the Hedgehog, Burning Rangers, and Nights among others) it’ll be interesting to see what he’s cooking up. Still, we imagine it’ll be a while until we hear anything concrete on his debut project with Square Enix.

Naka joined Sega in the early 1980s and stayed with the video game giant until 2006, when he formed his own studio, Prope.Â
