Sonic Boom will release on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in November 2014, SEGA has announced.

The two games have also received new subtitles to highlight the differences between them, with the Wii U version renamed Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and the 3DS version titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric follows the adventures of Sonic and friends as they team up to take down evil villain Lyric before he can unleash his devastating army. The game will offer a “different experience” to past games in the Sonic series with a “distinctive feel of an action-adventure game”, and feature new equipment players can take advantage of, including a new energy-charged cord called the Enerbeam.

Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, meanwhile, sees players attempt to rescue Amy after she’s captured by Lyric, and features a greater emphasis on platforming and puzzles than the Wii U title.

If you’re planning on picking up both, you’ll be able to unlock special content in the Wii U game by finding collectibles dotted around the 3DS version.

Expect to see more details on both games at E3 next week.
