It’s a British tradition. Go down the pub with a few mates, have a few drinks, watch the football then drown your sorrows afterwards. At least, that was the tradition.
This autumn, you’ll be able to do all of that without the pub. At a press event this morning Microsoft announced a deal with Sky that’ll see Sky television, including live Premier League football, available to watch through Xbox 360.
Up to eight people will be able to form an Xbox LIVE party and watch live Premier League football together, talking to each other via their headsets and controlling their Avatars in-game.
A virtual stadium with a virtual stand for the eight Avatars was shown at the event. Players will be able to make their Avatar cheer, for example, when a goal is scored.
The service will be provided through Sky Player, Sky’s online TV service. It’ll be a new option that pops up on the 360 dashboard, and will provide a standard definition stream straight to your TV.
Xbox owners who already subscribe to Sky TV will be able to access Sky Player’s on-demand services through their console, in addition to their PC or Mac. You’ll also be able to sign up to Sky Player through your 360 if you’re not already a Sky customer, enabling you to watch Sky on your 360 without the need for a satellite dish or a Sky box.
No package or pricing details have been announced, but more details are promised in the coming months.
