Many people have fond memories of EA’s skateboarding sim Skate; its third game wound up being reprinted four years after its initial release thanks to being featured heavily in YouTube Let’s Play videos. Now a new team of developers from Canada are hoping to emulate that success with a spiritual successor entitled Session.

The game promises to focus on the act and authenticity of skating, with no scoring system to speak of, rather creā-ture Studios promises a progression system based on how often you pull off tricks and how successfully. However, rather than these stat increases remaining, they’ll actually go down if you stop practising, emulating real life.

In addition, the team promise the environments will be constantly evolving open worlds, that will change and update based on player feedback and in-game tools that will allow players to report what they like and dislike.

It’s already doing pretty well on Kickstarter, having already met their initial target of $80,000 Canadian dollars in just four days, standing at $103,000 CAD at the time of writing, so creā-ture Studios are well on their way to their first stretch goal of customization options for your character and skateboard. Further goals include online multiplayer at 360K, a park editor at 410K and a story mode should they reach $510,000 CAD.

We have to say it looks very impressive, and there’s even a PC prototype demo to download from the Kickstarter page should you want to give it a go yourself. Session is aiming for a 2018 release on PC via Steam and Xbox via the Xbox Game Preview program.
