Much was made of the battle between Activision’s Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise and EA’s new kid on the block, Skate. After all the reviews had come in it was clear the critics’ favourite was Skate, but Activision still had the pull of the Tony Hawk franchise in its favour.

According to EA CFO Warren Jensen the strong skating brand Activision had built up over the last decade didn’t help the game out much, having been outsold by Skate in the region of “2 to 1”.

Jenson also noted that Skate notched up such impressive sales despite the fact it “launched on three fewer platforms” than Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground.
