Splash Damage’s much maligned 2011 team-based shooter meets parkour game, Brink, is now free on Steam. Following the game’s initially strong sales, its popularity quickly waned, mostly due to its continual lag issues (amongst other things). Now Bethesda has decided that the best price is no price, and is giving it away for free on Steam.

When Brink came out it was well received and took a different and very interesting approach to traversal in a shooter. Sadly, the online issues dragged it down and the game pretty much sank without a trace, becoming one of those titles that was (perhaps unfairly) referred to in jest or even scorn.

Anyway, Brink is free for thee and me, and there is a bundle of reasonably priced DLC to purchase should you take the plunge. It’s fair to note that the game doesn’t have the highest active player count, but perhaps going free will boost that. As it stands, Brink now has more active players than Battleborn or the recently released LawBreakers, which everyone seems to really enjoy but nobody seems to be playing.Â
