Nintendo has revealed a new Pokémon evolution exclusive to Pokémon Sword, Sirfetch’d.

A new, glitchy Pokémon appeared on the Sword and Shield website earlier this week, and sent fans into a frenzy of speculation. Some thought it was a totally new Fighting type Pokémon, and some guessed that it could be a Galarian Cubone. It resembled a knight holding a shield and a green lance, and the idea of a new evolution for Gen 1 Pokémon Farfetch'd gained considerable traction.

Today, it has been confirmed; Sirfetch’d is the Wild Duck Pokémon that Galarian Farfetch’d will transform into after engaging in many battles. Farfetch’d’s leek has been upgraded to a lance, and it now totes a leafy shield. In the video showcasing Sirfetch’d in action, it beats the living daylights out of a Liepard with a smarmy expression on its beak. It seems to be a serious chap, as when the trainer tries to play with it, it thwacks the player with its herbaceous sabre.

Also, the Sirfetch’d profile on the official Pokémon Sword and Shield website is un-glitched. Apparently, a wayward Rotom was behind the disruption, and now we know a little more about the Wild Duck Pokémon. As well as Steadfast, Sirfetch’d can learn a unique, new, and ‘devastatingly powerful’ move called Meteor Assault. Like a knight at a jousting tournament, it will point its leek at the opponent and charges toward them at great speed. Due to the intensity of the action, Sirfetch’d will rest for a turn after using Meteor Assault.

Sirfetch’d has inspired the Galar region through its just and noble personality, and there is a famous painting that shows a duel between a Sirfetch’d and an Escavalier. Sirfetch’d will retire from its battling career when its leek lance withers, as it is its greatest and most treasured possession. And, I think it’s got that smug little face because Sirfetch’d will only be found in the Pokémon Sword edition of the new game.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will launch on November 15 for the Nintendo Switch. Watch the Sirfetch’d reveal below.
