Sims 3 players will not be able to transfer their Sims, families or custom-created content into The Sims 4, Maxis has confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

“We have brand new technology driving the game so unfortunately none of that carries over,” said producer Ryan Vaughan while discussing the game at Gamescom.

“Especially with the new tools: It’s a whole new way of building your Sims and building your families so it doesn’t carry over.”

Nevertheless, Vaughan believes that The Sims 4’s new Create-A-Sim tools will let players recreate their existing families quickly.

“With the new tools, they’re really tactile and creative,” he continued, “and I think people are going to be able to recreate their families really quickly but it’s going to be so much more fun.”

The first in-game footage of The Sims 4 was revealed during EA’s GamesCom press conference earlier this week. The game is due to launch on PC early next year.
