Fans of early 90âs nostalgia may have already been looking forward to Simon the Sorcerer Origins, but now theyâve been given double the reasons to celebrate as itâs come to light that Rick Astley himself will also be involved in the game.
The new game is set before the very first game in the series, of course, and will tell the story of how Simon came to be the snarky sorcerer those of us of a certain age know and love. Itâll use a hand-drawn style, but of course take on a more modern approach â so gone is the verb system and in its place players will be able to choose between a dynamic point and click control method, or take direct control of Simon.
Speaking to VideoGamer at a press event for the game, lead game producer and narrative designer Fabrizo Rizzo confirmed that the singer, fresh off a much-lauded Glastonbury performance, is set to have some of his music in the game, and was very excited to be involved. âWe had to spend a lot of time because getting the rights meant the involvement of many production houses. But from the first moment, Rick Astley was very passionate about this. He had never seen one of his songs in a game. And when we reached out to him and said âYour song, our game set in England, in the â90s, this style, this cartoonish style, this kind of humourâ¦â He was convinced. He was really, really, really passionate about the project and I personally cannot wait to share more about the game with Mr. Astley.âÂ
As a fan, I would like to meet him in person one day! That would be awesome! Even though I grew up in the â90s-2000s, my father was a huge fan of music from the â80s, the â90s and the â70s. So I tended to gravitate towards that kind of artist. And so they are still my heroes, my legends of music. So hearing his song, one of his best songs, you know? in our game is something thatâs⦠âMy god!â. Iâm tearing up just thinking about it!â
