Epic Games’ vp Mark Rein has notified the media of a lawsuit filed by Silicon Knights concerning an alleged breach of contract by his company.
Rein has declined to offer the specifics, but notes: “We believe the claims against us are unfounded and without merit and we intend to fully defend against them.“
Gamasutra has uncovered more information, notably allegations that Epic failed to provide Silicon Knights with a final development kit by March 2006. In addition, the lawsuit alleges that Epic failed to provide support to Silicon Knights and that the developer was more concerned with finishing its own titles.
The uncovered documents also reveal that Silicon Knights was forced into writing its own game engine last year after the alleged delay in the delivery of a fully operable Unreal Engine 3.
Amongst a list of desired outcomes from the lawsuit, Silicon Knights asks that “The Court award damages to Silicon Knights in an amount proved at trial for the damages as set forth above“, and that “Epic be required to disgorge all profits obtained on its Gears of War game as a result of the misconduct set forth above.“
Too Human is currently expected to ship in 2008.
