Akira Yamaoka, the iconic video game composer behind the haunting melodies of Silent Hill, has expressed a desire to work on Resident Evil.

The composer, who keeps coming back to score Konami’s beautiful horror series, has spent decades crafting the soundscape of Silent Hill, but now he wants a shot at the franchise’s decades-long rival.

Akira Yamaoka could score Resident Evil

In an interview for DarkSwitch, a city building game which the composer scored, Yamaoka explained that Resident Evil is a “dream franchise” that he would love to work on. (Thanks, VGC.)

“I’d really love to work with the Resident Evil franchise,” the Silent Hill composer said in the video. “It’s a horror game I used to play a lot, so it would be great if I can get a chance.”

Resident Evil as a series does have some great music, but the series isn’t known for its soundtrack like Silent Hill is. While there are some great tracks – specifically in Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 4 – Yamaoka’s music makes Silent Hill.

With Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes allegedly in the works to release sometime after Resident Evil 9: Requiem, it would be interesting to see a new generation of Resi games using Yamaoka’s music.

On the other hand, maybe they can rehire composer Mamoru Samuragochi, the alleged original composer for the series who faked being deaf, put his name on other artist’s works and finally released his own music two years ago. (Spoiler: listening to it, you’d actually think he was deaf.)
