The Sinking City has received its first proper gameplay video courtesy of developer Frogwares, which offers a look at one of the creepy Lovecraftian horror title's side quests.

Most of the footage we've seen of the detective-'em-up has been cinematic trailers, so this gives us a proper idea of how the game actually plays. There's definitely an air of mystery about the proceedings, as protagonist Charles W. Reed explores the water-logged town of Oakmond, Massachusetts, solving various conundrums.

In this case, Silence is Golden sees Reed helping out a local librarian, who has had her house broken into by a mysterious woman. Curiously, the open-world setting doesn't really have any waypoints; in this quest, you're tasked with finding the librarian's house simply by using the clues you have been given.

Reed's mental health seems to play a role in the gameplay too. Upon finding the corpse of a dog, he starts to freak out a bit and eventually returns to normal after some time has passed.

It kind of reminds me of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the GameCube, where your character would 'lose sanity' and hallucinate after encountering various creatures.

The Sinking City is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on March 21, 2019.
