On Tuesday, 20 year-old Devin Moore was convicted of the murder of three police officers, despite claims that Grand Theft Auto was to blame. Moore had pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental defect, but after only an hour the jury found him guilty. Moore’s defence had claimed that Grand Theft Auto together with childhood abuse explained his actions.
Jack Thompson, fresh from recent attacks on Killer 7, The Sims 2 and GTA: San Andreas was on hand to file a lawsuit on behalf of the victims’ families. Large retailers including Wal-Mart and GameStop as well as Sony and Take Two were named in the lawsuit.
“What we’re saying is that Devin Moore was, in effect, trained to do what he did. He was given a murder simulator,” said Thompson.
