In a move to streamline operations and refocus its portfolio (plans for such were announced early this year), Atari has completed the sale of Shiny Entertainment to Foundation 9 Entertainment.

The sale of Shiny Entertainment completes the final phase of our strategic restructuring,” said David Pierce, President and Chief Executive Officer, Atari, Inc. “We now have a centralized organization that can utilize external studio execution while maintaining internal focus on creative development and production.

Shiny will now set up shop with Foundation 9’s The Collective (Mark Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure), where they are said to begin work on a unannounced major release.

The studio has tremendous talent and experience working with big Hollywood franchises and will be working with us on a major, as-yet-undisclosed day and date release,” said John Goldman, chairman and CEO of Foundation 9. “The Shiny team will only add to our capabilities and technology base.

Atari’s projects formerly developed by Shiny, including Earthworm Jim, are to be retained by the publisher.
